Template Spotlight: Taglines

A tagline is a short phrase that states a company’s overall purpose. A tagline helps highlight a company’s brand to the public. The most important aspect of a tagline is its ability to be memorable. Conjuring up a tag line requires a ton of creativity: this is where Copysmith can help!

1. Select Taglines, and name your campaign.

To begin, choose a Taglines template section. The name of the card is for your reference only and does not affect the generations.

2. Enter in key information.

First, add your company name.

Taglines will vary depending on the intended audience: your potential customers’ age, status, lifestyle, passions and habits. Indicate your target audience: in this case our target audience is educators and students!

Next, you’re going to add a description of your company or product. We recommend 1 or 2 sentences that speak to your company’s profile and values. If you are looking to generate a tagline for a specific product, write about this product instead! Note: Don’t make it too long, or the copy will end up being deterministic.

What tone do you want to strike? Are you going for: WittyFormal or Funny? These are just a few examples of tones at your disposal.

Now type in the keywords (1–3 will be enough) that your future tagline will rely on: main features of your brand or product, details of your special offer, a location or a special occasion.

On top of that, you can indicate keywords to avoid that you DO NOT want appearing in your generated ads. For example, our product is not adapted for primary students, so let’s add ‘Primary’ as a keyword to avoid for now.

3. Generate copy!

Click “Generate” and voila—you get 10–20 pieces of copy. You now have access to an assortment of ready-to-use brief and clever taglines.

4. Discard what doesn’t work for you, heart your favourites, and choose from your top results.

You can eliminate the entries you don’t want to use from the list. Click on the Trash Bin icon at the bottom of each generation to remove the tagline. Let’s remove those that are not quite to the point:

5. Play around with parameters and edit your favourites!

So, you liked one of the generations, but you want to modify it slightly to get it more to the point. No problem. Simply click on the generation and remove ‘educators’ in favour of ‘students’:

You can also use editing to shape the suggested model: in one of the generations you can improve the style of the tagline by adding “a beating heart” so it would resonate more with your brand: “Clanbeat.”

Fun fact: when you upgrade to a paid account, we use your liking, editing, and deletion activity to fine-tune our model’s understanding of your writing style. The more you use Copysmith, the closer to your writing style copysmithing becomes!

What’s amazing about Copysmith is that you can even feed phrases Copysmith generated for you back into the left-hand component of the template.

6. (Optional) Share your generations with others to review

You may want to discuss the generated taglines with your team, boss or manager to approve or reject them. To share your work with colleagues, simply click “Share copy.”

Your manager can upvote and downvote generations.

7. Export your favourites to CSV

All the generations can now be saved in CSV: an easy-to-use function that lets you directly add the copy to your web site, blog platform, or editor tool. Click “Download all as CSV” on the top after you make the selection!

8. Repeat?

You can always go back to this campaign and generate more content with the same parameters. Feel free to regenerate new copy ideas by adding and deleting parameters, or start anew with a fresh card.
